Cyberbullying is, "The use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner." Criticising means to, "Indicate the faults of someone or something in a disapproving way." Sometimes people get these words confused which leads to a lot of misunderstandings.
Criticising someone's behavior does not make you a bully as long as you don't go out of your way to offend them on purpose by calling them names, making fun of them, etc. For example, many people (including me) don't agree with Saraapril's biased, negative, and disrespectful view of Club Penguin and its staff.
I've called her out on it a few times on Twitter without being rude and she blocked me along with many other people. Then I saw tweets from her supporters implying anyone who talks bad about her is a bully. That's not true. It's all about what you say and how you say it. Some people do take things too far and can be very insulting, but a lot of people who she blocked were voicing their opinion in a non-hurtful way.
One of the best things you can do is resolve conflict before it escalates. There's a big difference between standing up for yourself and being a bully. Even I have goofed up on this subject once or twice.
Sincerely apologizing to each other is the quickest way to end this type of disagreement. If they give you a fake apology by saying one thing and doing the opposite move on and don't communicate with them anymore.
Here's some advice for those of you who get bullied:
- Don't let bullies get to you. I did and almost quit Club Penguin because the stress was overtaking me. Don't let them win by taking away things that make you happy.
- Remember their opinion about you isn't important or valid. You are not what they say you are. Never forget that.
- If you have to block and ignore them that's okay. Sometimes they'll make cruel comments because they want to get you upset and start a fight. Don't give them that satisfaction.
Bullying should be illegal. On second thought, people should be more aware of how their words effect their peers. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If people actually followed those words bullying wouldn't exist.
I would like to commend the Twitter account @CPStopBullying for being a great help to the Club Penguin Twitter community. That is what true kindness looks like. You can always find the anonymous owners encouraging penguins and solving disagreements. They are a role model to us all.
Amazing post, Super. On the contrary, though, Legittrain needs to be locked up in a mental institution.
